We are a small, distributed team headquartered in San Leandro, California, and we are looking for an experienced Python developer with crypto domain knowledge to help design, build, and maintain our CryptoBot product. Role overview We are hiring a part-time Python Developer to own development and improvement of CryptoBot, our automated trading and market monitoring engine. You will work remotely as part of a small cross-functional team, translating trading strategies and research into robust, production-grade software, integrating with exchanges and data providers, and improving reliability, safety, and performance. This role requires strong Python skills and solid hands-on experience with crypto concepts and systems. Key responsibilities - Develop, maintain, and extend CryptoBot core components in Python, including trading logic, order management, data ingestion, backtesting modules, and monitoring/alerting tools. - Integrate with centralized and decentralized exchange APIs (REST, WebSocket) and common crypto libraries; implement reliable reconnection, rate limiting, and error handling. - Implement and automate backtesting frameworks and simulation environments to validate strategies using historical and live-simulated data. - Ensure safe order execution and risk controls: position sizing, stop-loss/limit controls, and circuit-breaker mechanisms to protect capital. - Work with data engineers and researchers to ingest, normalize, and validate market data (candles, trades, orderbook snapshots, on-chain events). - Build and maintain secure handling of secrets and keys (environmental secrets, encrypted storage, key management best practices). - Write tests (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and participate in code reviews to maintain high code quality and reliability. - Optimize performance-sensitive components for low-latency execution and resource efficiency where needed. - Instrument systems for observability: structured logs, metrics, tracing, and alerting to detect and diagnose production issues quickly. - Contribute to product design discussions, provide technical estimates, and translate research ideas into implementation plans. - Produce clear documentation for installation, configuration, and operational runbooks. Required qualifications - Proven hands-on experience building production software in Python. - Demonstrable experience working in the cryptocurrency space (trading systems, exchange integrations, blockchain interaction, or related tools). - Familiarity with crypto exchange API patterns (REST and WebSocket), rate limiting, order lifecycle, and common trading concepts. - Strong knowledge of asynchronous programming in Python (asyncio or equivalent) and experience building resilient networked services. - Solid ability to write clean, testable, and well-documented code. - Practical understanding of security practices for handling keys, secrets, and private data. - Comfortable working remotely and communicating clearly in a small distributed team; able to overlap with Pacific Time zone for team syncs. - Ability to work part-time and manage priorities independently to meet delivery targets. Preferred qualifications - Experience with exchange integration libraries such as CCXT, or direct experience with major exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, etc.). - Experience building backtesting frameworks and familiarity with data libraries such as pandas, NumPy, or similar for analysis. - Experience with containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and deploying services to cloud platforms. - Familiarity with on-chain data and interacting with blockchain nodes or RPC endpoints, or experience with smart contract interactions. - Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry) and logging frameworks. - Background in quantitative trading, signal research, or algorithmic strategy design. - Contributions or public projects (GitHub repositories, trading bots, research notebooks) you can share. Working arrangement and time commitment - Part-time position with flexible hours. Typical commitment is expected to be between 10–25 hours per week, adjustable based on project needs and mutual agreement. - Fully remote; however, candidates should be able to work overlapping hours with the team based in Pacific Time for at least a few hours per week for syncs, code reviews, and planning. - Deliverables and milestones will be coordinated through regular check-ins, issue tracking, and sprint-style task planning.
