We are seeking a dedicated General Practitioner with demonstrated Emergency Room (ER) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience to join a dynamic clinical team in Hayward, CA. Position Summary As a General Practitioner with Merit Finder, you will provide comprehensive outpatient and acute care services while contributing to inpatient and emergency care as needed. This role is best suited to a clinically strong, adaptable physician who is comfortable managing both routine primary care and acute presentations. You will apply your ER and ICU experience to stabilize and manage patients with urgent or critical needs, coordinate care with specialists and hospital teams, and ensure safe transitions of care for admitted and discharged patients. Responsibilities - Provide high-quality, evidence-based primary care and acute care services to adult and, where applicable, pediatric patients on site. - Assess, triage, and manage patients presenting with urgent and emergent conditions; perform initial stabilization and coordinate transfer to specialty services or higher-level care when required. - Participate in ER and ICU patient care as required by the facility: evaluate, manage, and monitor critically ill patients in collaboration with critical care teams. - Admit, manage, and discharge patients from inpatient services when appropriate; write clear, concise admission and discharge summaries and plans. - Perform common clinical procedures within the scope of general practice and emergent care (e.g., wound repair, basic airway management, IV/central access coordination, lumbar puncture, chest tube management per facility policy when credentialed). - Provide continuity of care through outpatient follow-up, medication management, preventive care, and chronic disease management. - Collaborate with nurses, specialists, allied health professionals, case managers, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. - Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records, including problem lists, progress notes, orders, and discharge instructions. - Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical protocols development, morbidity and mortality review, and infection control activities. - Maintain professional licensure, certifications, and continuing medical education; comply with hospital and regulatory policies. - Be available for scheduled shifts, on-call coverage, and urgent patient needs as required by the employer’s staffing model. Required Skills and Experience - Demonstrated clinical experience working in Emergency Room and ICU settings. Ability to manage acute, unstable, and critically ill patients. - Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution. - Active and unrestricted medical license to practice in California (or ability to obtain licensure prior to start). - Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain) and compliance with state prescribing regulations. - Current ACLS certification required; PALS and ATLS certifications preferred where applicable. - Strong clinical judgment, decisive action under pressure, and excellent procedural skills consistent with ER/ICU care. - Proficiency with electronic medical records and common hospital information systems. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. - Commitment to patient-centered care, cultural competence, and high ethical standards. Preferred Qualifications - Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or equivalent general practice certification. - 2+ years of post-residency clinical experience, including shifts in emergency and critical care settings. - Prior experience working in community hospital environments similar to Hayward-area facilities. - Experience with teaching, mentoring, or supervising trainees or mid-level providers is a plus. Working Conditions - Fully on-site practice located in Hayward, CA. This position requires regular presence at the facility and will involve direct patient contact. - Schedule may include day shifts, evenings, weekends, and designated on-call coverage depending on facility needs. - Fast-paced clinical environment with exposure to acute and critical care scenarios, potential for high patient volumes and emotionally demanding situations. - Must be able to stand for extended periods, perform clinical procedures, and respond rapidly to emergencies. Compensation and Benefits - Base salary: $300,000 per year. - Competitive benefits package (subject to employer plan) typically includes medical, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plan options; paid time off; CME allowance and time; malpractice insurance and tail coverage details per contract. - Additional incentives, shift differentials, or productivity bonuses may be available depending on employer policy.
